Biography

Jimena has a degree in Biology and Terrestrial Ecology (BSc.), is specialized in Tropical Agroforestry and Silvopastoral Systems (MSc.) and Functional Ecology in Agro-ecosystems (PhD.). Her research focuses on analyzing the effects of biodiversity management practices in anthropogenic and pristine habitats for the provision of ecosystem services (ES) inside agricultural landscapes and the development of sustainable Food Systems (FS) in Tropical and European contexts.

Profile

Jimena's motivation lies in studying agro-biodiversity (taxonomic and functional) in different farming systems (specialized, mixed, smallholders) for promoting sustainable management, ecological restoration, and ecosystem services provision in agricultural landscapes worldwide, including i.e. Livestock (dairy and beef), Crops (cocoa, coffee, maize-beans, cereals) and Horticultural systems. 

Research Area

Jimena focuses on the study of fauna and flora diversity patterns (i.e. taxonomical and functional) within agricultural landscapes and the ecological processes (i.e. litter decomposition and natural regeneration), linking biodiversity assessments with ecosystem services provision from forest and agro-ecosystem (i.e. biodiversity maintenance, climate regulation, nutrient cycling), and analyzing the socio-ecological challenges for the sustainable transition of food systems.
