Biografie

Curriculum vitae:

Yapin obtained an MSc degree in Animal Nutrition from Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences in 2021 with thesis on topics related to dairy cows nutrition during transition. During her MSc, she specialised in the impact of different doses of rumen-protected glucose on gastrointestinal function and body metabolism of early lactation dairy cows. It is about how to alleviate the negative energy balance of dairy cows in early lactation.

In 2021, she got a scholarship from Chinese Scholarship Council to perform a four-year PhD abroad. Topic of her PhD is 'CUSTOMISED CONCEPTION - Epigenetic consequences of periconception health and metabolic status in dairy cows for health, development and lactation performance of the offspring'. She is supervised by prof. dr. ir. Bas Kemp, dr. ir. ATM van Knegsel, and dr. ir. Akke Kok. Her starting and proposed end date is from April 2022 to April 2026.

Worldwide little is known on the relationship between health and metabolic status of dairy cows around conception and health, development and performance of her calf in early and later life. The current PhD research is to evaluate the consequences of periconception health and metabolic state in dairy cows on health, development and lactational performance of her offspring. Knowledge gained in this research project will contribute to optimizing cow and calf management aiming at healthy animals and sustainable dairy farming including aspects relevant for animal health, welfare, nutrient efficiency and longevity of farm animals. She has first-authored 2 scientific papers in SCI (the journal of Animal Feed Science and Technology and Applied and Environmental Microbiology), and 3 scientific papers in Chinese Core Periodical (Chinese Journal of Animal Nutrition).

Research projects:

1. CUSTOMISED CONCEPTION - Epigenetic consequences of periconception health and metabolic status in dairy cows for health, development and lactation performance of the offspring. generation.

  • Evaluate the consequences of periconception health and metabolic state in dairy cows on health, development and lactational performance of her offspring

2. Investigation in alleviating negative energy balance in early lactation dairy cows (MSc diploma)

  • Response of the body metabolism of dairy cows to nutrition regulation through the serum metabolomics
  • Effects of nutrition regulation on the composition and metabolism of rumen microbiota of cows through the 16S and metabolomics analysis of ruminal fluid
  • Effects of nutrition regulation on the composition and metabolism of hindgut microbiota of cows through the 16S and metabolomics analysis of fecal samples
  • The rumen-protected rate of rumen-protected glucose and its effect on rumen digestibility of oat hay by in situ nylon bag measurement
