SEASEEDS: Hechting van zeewier aan substraat en in de Nederlandse samenleving (2022 - 2026)

Zeewier is een veelbelovende maar nauwelijks geëxploiteerde bron van biomassa en eiwitten. Kleinschalige teeltproeven tonen aan dat grote en variabele losslag van zeewier resulteert in inefficiënte en onvoorspelbare teelt met hoge economische risico's en een onbekende impact op de mariene ecologie. Hierdoor trekt de sector geen investeringen aan, wat de opschaling die nodig is voor winstgevendheid bemoeilijkt. We gaan de aanhechting van suikerkelp verbeteren, de gevolgen van grootschalige zeewiercultuur op de mariene ecologie kwantificeren en businessmodellen voor Nederlands zeewier creeeren. Onze inspanningen leidt tot economische kansen en maatschappelijk bewustzijn dat nodig is voor de transitie naar een duurzame blauwe economie.
