As research officer I experiment with new (sensor) technology, develop tools for ecological research, coordinate data collection, manage data and support research and education.
One focal area is studying wildlife using motion-sensitive cameras (camera trapping). I manage and develop Agouti, a web-based application for standardized processing and archiving of images collected with camera traps. We use artificial intelligence to automatically identify species in images, speeding up data processing.
In general, I provide support to colleagues, PhD candidates and students in setting up and conducting their project using my background in data science, sensor technology, GIS, remote sensing, GPS, software development and IT infrastructures, as well as extensive fieldwork experience in the Netherlands and abroad.
