Biography

Coming from horticulture, I am at my place in applied research, in which I can contribute to strengthening this sector. I like to work at the intersection of public and private issues and focus on the themes in which I can contribute to economic strengthening and sustainability. I often do this in the role of leader of projects that are multidisciplinary. More specifically, I deal with plant health, which concerns both plant protection and phytosanitary risk management.

Benefits of Nature is a foundation that was founded in early 2015 by several leading partners in the floricultural chain with the aim to make the living and living environment of millions more attractive with flowers and plants that are produced and traded in a sustainable chain. The Benefits of Nature concept is based on two pillars. In the first place by putting the customer's wishes first and involving them in innovation in the chain. Society sets higher and higher demands on the sustainability of products and large retailers want to distinguish themselves from competitors. Secondly, the concept is designed according to the principles of the circular economy aimed at reusing materials. The objective of this project is:
1. to develop knowledge with which the ecological footprint can be measured on the basis of the LCA (Life Cycle Analysis) method of production and trade in the entire floricultural chain
2. Collect data about the sustainability performance of participating companies
3. to provide participating companies with advice to improve sustainability performance
4. generic measures

The PPS Market Intelligence Nutrition Horticulture 2.0 builds on the basis laid in Market Intelligence Horticulture 2.0. The dashboard will be extended to a portal on which data, results and MI tools can be found. The purpose of this PPP is to enable companies, chains and sectors to improve their decision-making in the short, medium and long term on the basis of relevance. The emphasis is on the development of tools for and with the food horticulture chain.

The most important tools are the Food Profiler App, which measures near-time consumption behavior, the Global Detector, with which geographic maps based on multiple indicators can be used to identify future production and sales areas and forecasting tools, with which the effect of interventions can be identified. the market can be predicted. By using these tools, the business community is able to strengthen and expand the unique competitive position of the Netherlands in the world.

In the Big T&U PPP, research is being carried out into the possibilities for developing a joint IT infrastructure (HortiCube), governance and a business model for collecting and integrating market data from a wide variety of sources and social media.
