Dr. Nynke Hofstra is assistant professor at Wageningen University. Her education included an MSc in environmental sciences (cum laude) from Wageningen University and a D. Phil. from the University of Oxford. She is currently involved in teaching for the environmental systems analysis group and research on the broad theme of water and health.

In my opinion, research benefits from education and vice versa. The topic of my research helps me to motivate students in their course work and theses. At the same time, teaching the topic of my research requires me to keep up to date on the latest news in te field and students’ questions provide a new viewpoint. I really enjoy seeing students’ motivation and eagerness to learn, in particular in individual assignments.

I teach two courses for the Environmental Systems Analysis group. The course Introduction to Global Change will introduce students to the topic of global environmental change. It is an interdisciplinary course, bringing together insights and approaches from different natural and social sciences. The course should be used by students as a frame of reference in future studies. In the course Introduction to Environmental Systems Analysis we focus on analytical tools to assess climate change impacts and adaptation and apply these tools to a climate change impacts problem.

I supervise MSc and BSc students in their thesis. I prefer to supervise students on topics related to my projects and research field in general. Potential students can have a look at the possible thesis topics.
