Biography

I am a geneticist with special interest in transmission genetics. Research is aimed at the analysis of the role of mutation and recombination for fungal adaptation and evolution in nature as well as in the laboratory. In the laboratory we work with ascomycete fungi like Aspergillus, Neurospora, Podospora, Sodiomyces and Beauveria. Current research is on the emergence of azole resistance in Aspergillus fumigatus, the evolution of alkaliphyly in Sodiomyces alkalina and of selfish genetic elements in Podospora and Neurospora. I teach introductory and advanced genetics courses.

I am interested in fungal genetics, in particular the causes and consequences of genetic transmission systems in fungi. In the laboratory we work with both natural isolates and mutant lab strains of several fungi e.g. Aspergillus, Neurospora, Beauveria, Sodiomyces and Podospora.
