I recently joined the group Green Economy and Land Use (GER). My background is in statistics and econometrics (MSC degree) and mathematical demography (PhD). In the past, I worked as a researcher and project leader in the Dutch national demographic institute (NIDI) in The Hague on demographic modelling, forecasting, and population projections, and as a senior research officer and chief demographer in the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia on impact assessment of the armed conflict in the Balkans region. I testified numerous times as the Prosecution expert witness on conflict demographics, such as, among others, forced migration and war-related deaths.
I also have a long and solid record of leading and managing research projects, including some on food security and biobased economy (FOODSECURE, SAT-BBE, BERST; at LEI 2011-14) and many others on different topics. I came to WEcR with the idea to reinforce the available project management capacity of, in particular, large and complex international projects, and to contribute to research projects where demographic processes (such as e.g. migration, both external and internal) come into picture as part of broader agricultural economics analyses.
