As a marine ecologist, I am interested in delphinid behavioural responses to tourism activities. My PhD focuses on the common dolphins (Delphinus delphis) on the Azores, and their social responses to swim-with-dolphin activities. In addition, I will determine if their social responses mitigate disturbance to the vulnerable part of the pod. Azores delphis project was started with my overarching PhD and I will be looking at "Social mitigation strategies of common dolphins" off the coast of Sao Miguel, Azores. Besides this PhD project, we aim to understand more about the local population, site fidelity, and their interaction with whale-watching activities. We use a drone, photo ID, acoustics, and land observations for this project.
