Biografie

Ellen Brauers takes part in the NWO funded research project ‘’Next Generation Governance Arrangements for Sustainable Global Value Chains. She researches the ways in which public actors such as the Dutch state and the EU are governing human rights abuses in the Indonesian palm oil sector. Guiding in this research is the concept of ‘meta-governance’, ‘’a practice by (mainly) public authorities that entails the coordination of one or more governance modes by using different instruments, methods, and strategies to overcome governance failures.’’ [1]

Ellen holds a BSc degree in Development Economics (WUR) and a MSc degree in Politics and Governance of International Development (WUR). She was also enrolled in the Sustainable Development Diplomacy master track (https://sddwageningen.com/). For her MSc thesis she explored how David Cameron had strategized for a Remain vote for the Brexit referendum and how this strategy deviated from the wishes of the British electorate by comparing Camerons 'New Settlement' with constituencies' Facebook comments and news articles. She gained working experience as an intern for the Expert Centre Sustainability of ASN Bank, analysing the sustainability performance of stock listed companies and the human rights due diligence performance of the garment industry. During her studies she also worked as a student-assistant for the MSc course ‘’Politics, Policy Making and Accountability in International Arenas for Development’’ by, among others, helping to improve the negotiations simulation on a food conflict.
