Yulia studied literature and worked as an education officer in zoos in Russia and Finland. She defended her first Master thesis on behaviour and welfare of orangutans in captivity, second - on discourses of protected natural areas in Russia. Her current research interests are located in the productive intersections between natural and social sciences: animal geography, animal ethics and ethology.
