Deep Eutectic Solvents (DES) as a novel extraction system for microalgae biorefinery
Microalgae biorefinery is an emerging concept for the complete valorsation of microalgal biomass. However, the current microalgae downstream processing techniques are not yet suitable for this concept to be implemented. Deep eutectic solvents, a novel class of solvents with tuneable physicochemical properties, have the potential to be a green solvent for microalgae extraction and purification. However, there are still some issues of the solvents need to be solved, including challenging back-extraction. This study aims to develop a DES-based extraction system for microalgae biorefinery.
