Biography

I am a human geographer and PhD candidate at the Cultural Geography chair group at Wageningen University. My research interests include democratic planning, policy formation in contested spaces, multi-level governance and the limits to consensus-building in decision making. Inspired by the work of Michel Foucault and policy analysts such as Bent Flyvbjerg and Tim Richardson, my current project observes the rise and fall of spatial planning as a dominant state discourse to govern in Argentina since the beginning of the twentieth century. I am particularly focused on elucidating the role of path/inter and goal dependencies as a catalyst for institutional continuity and change. In particular, the project identifies and analyses (1) the critical junctures at which new policy options emerged and the rigidities that constrained the capacity of actors/institutions to uncouple from previous choices; (2) the discursive migrations that help to build a functional interdependence among policy actors/institutions by fostering reinterpretations and reappropiations of past/external planning experiences; (3) the performance of governance sites as horizontal platforms for policy dialogue.
