Sake Kruk is a PhD researcher and research assistant at the Environmental Policy Group, working on aquaculture governance and the role of digital technologies in the governance of the sustainability of global food value chains.

Sake holds a bachelor degree in International Studies from Leiden University and a master degree in International Development Studies from Wageningen University. His master thesis analysed the position of small-scale producers in aquaculture certification, with field research in Thailand. After his studies, Sake worked for one year at Oxfam Novib on various projects related to responsible business conduct with a focus on seafood, certifications, and alternatives to certification.

Sake's research focusses on finding solutions for the effective governance of global food systems. His PhD research focusses on understanding the emerging importance of digital technologies for the governance of sustainable food systems. In addition, Sake works on the Aquaculture Governance Indicators, developing a framework to systematically compare and analyse the performance of the sustainability governance of aquaculture across countries.
