Dr. Pierre Gerber is a staff of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), now serving as Senior Livestock Specialist at the World Bank. He is appointed Extraordinary Professor at the Department of Animal Sciences, Wageningen University.
Pierre possesses over 15 years of experience in analysing trends in global livestock systems and their interactions with the environment.
At FAO, he coordinated a global programme of work on sustainable development pathways for the livestock sector. This involved analytical work, partnerships and field projects on a wide range of issues including climate smart agriculture, metrics of sustainability, policy formulation and efficiency of natural resource use. At the World Bank, he is in charge of mainstreaming climate and environmental considerations within the portfolio of livestock operations. His research and educational activities within the Animal Production System Group at Wageningen University address global environmental sustainability issues in livestock systems.
