Biography

My PhD research focuses on meat consumption and transitioning to more plant-based consumption. Looking through different conceptual lenses, such as ideology, I try to understand resistance against such transitioning in different forms. This can be overt resistance, for instance when people vocally protest a meat-free canteen, but also more covert resistance that manifests because of the way certain practices are constituted. For example, people who try to reduce their meat consumption may experience resistance against this when celebrating Holidays with a turkey dish or when having a family barbecue. In researching the so-called protein transition, I take a sociological approach, focusing on group dynamics. The studies of my PhD project are qualitative in nature, and we employ a diversity of research methods, such as interviewing, emotion networking, ethnography, and photo elicitation.

My educational background is in consumption sociology, cultural anthropology, and philosophy of culture. I have always had a broad interest in topics related to society and culture, trying to understand the complex realities of our lives.
