Biography

Junnan Ma is  a researcher specialized in physiology, nutrition, breeding, and welfare of dairy cows. She chose to progress in academic field related to dairy cow science to be able to specialize in this subject and contribute to sustainability, animal health, animal welfare, healthy food and to improve the quality of life.

In 2017, She graduated from Chinese Academy of Agricultural Science and received her MSc degree, specialised in calves, milk replacer feeding, management, growth and gastrointestinal development. Her MSc thesis was: Effects of different solid-liquid ratio feeding patterns on growth and gastrointestinal development of calves. During Her MSc thesis, she focused on the effects of solid-liquid ratio feeding patterns on growth, body weight, feed intake, feed efficiency metabolic status, slaughter traits, and gastrointestinal development of calves.

In 2018, She got a scholarship from Chinese Scholarship Council to perform a PhD abroad.

She started on march 2018 as a PhD candidate at Wageningen University and Research, Department of Animal Sciences, Adaptation Physiology Group.

Her PhD will continue until 2022 and is supervised by prof. dr. ir. Bas Kemp, Prof.dr.ir. T.J.G.M. Lam, dr. ir. ATM van Knegsel, dr. ir. Akke Kok.

Her research will focus on “Customised lactation length: Reproduction and health in dairy cows with different lactation lengths”.
