Biografie

Dr Jeanne Nel is a senior researcher at Wageningen University & Research in the Netherlands, and holds a Research Associate position in South Africa at the Nelson Mandela University. Her research focusses on land and water ecosystems, and the linkages to global change and social development. Trained as an ecologist and conservation scientist, her research has shifted to a more inter- and transdisciplinary level, working to embed theoretical and technical research into processes that stimulate learning and collective actions towards just and sustainable futures. She coordinates projects and programmes that work with a wide range of disciplinary scientists, policy makers and practitioners to interrogate contrasts, complementarities, and alternative options to achieve transformative change. Her work leverages transdisciplinary and sustainability science theory in application tools such as food system and ecosystem-based approaches, climate adaptation, disaster risk reduction, conservation and development planning, water resource management and ecosystem accounting. Together with collaborators, her work has received substantial uptake in local and national policy and practice. Dr Nel has published over 50 articles in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters, as well as many technical reports ( see https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=LWAZB2kAAAAJ&hl=en).
