Biografie

Tanik works as a PhD candidate at the Rural and Environmental History Group. His project inquires into the historical roots and drivers of sub-Saharan Africa's increasing dependence on imports for food consumption in the 20th century. Specifically, his research delves into the persistent effects of SSA's biogeography, demography and economy on its ability to feed its inhabitants.

Before working in research, Tanik was involved non-profit management in Tanzania, Uganda and the United States. His deep interest in poverty alleviation and rural development led him to manage several microfinance, SME finance and rural women entrepreneurship development projects. His educational background is in economics with a focus on sustainability and growth. On holidays, he enjoys exploring the world and visiting his family in Tanzania.
