Biografie

I am a developmental biologist interested in understanding the genetic and molecular mechanisms responsible for the evolution of post-embryonic developmental processes. In particular, I aim to unravel the mechanisms that underlie the evolution of reproductive traits and regeneration capacity.

I completed my bachelor in marine biology and master in fish endocrinology at Andres Bello University, Chile. Later, I worked as a researcher and seminar teaching assistant at the same university until mid-2013. During this time, I got a PhD fellowship and moved to The Netherlands to pursue a PhD on fish reproduction at Utrecht University. There, I did my PhD on the molecular mechanisms involved in regulating germ cell development in zebrafish under the supervision of Drs. Rüdiger Schulz and Jan Bogerd. At the beginning of 2019, I got my PhD degree and obtained another individual fellowship to work on the evolution of female reproduction in livebearing fish (Poeciliidae) at Wageningen University.
