Leonardo Nascimento works on tracking climate action, the quantitative analysis of GHG emission trajectories, and the support and implementation of national or sector specific low-emission strategies. As a Climate Polici Analyst at NewClimate Institute, he is part of the core team of the Climate Action Tracker, evaluating national climate change commitments and policies. He also works on multiple projects tracking climate action on the international level, advancing climate policy in developing countries as well as quantifying co-benefits of climate action. At Wageningen University and Research he investigates the implementation of climate policies and which factors explain their success, or lack thereof.

Leonardo holds a degree in Physics from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) in Brazil and a MSc in Sustainable Energy Technology from the University of Twente in the Netherlands.
