Dr Lucila de Almeida is a tenured Assistant Professor of Environmental & Energy Law at Wageningen University & Research since August 2020, and Education Coordinator of the Law Chair Group. She is also a part-time Assistant Professor at the European University Institute (0.1 fte at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies), where she defended her PhD thesis about the Private Law dimension of EU energy law in 2017 under the framework of the ERC Advanced Grant on European Regulatory Private Law.

Before joining WUR, Lucila won the Edmond J. Safra Fellowship at Tel Aviv University (2019-2020), was appointed postdoctoral researcher at the University of Helsinki, Faculty of law (2017-2019), and research associate at European University Institute, Law Department (2013-2016), besides visiting scholar at the Università Degli Studio di Padova (summer 2019), UCLouvain (summer 2018), and University of Cambridge (summer 2014).

Lucila has published mainly in the field of energy law and regulation, sustainability, contracts, and consumer law. Her most recent edited books are Sustainable Consumption: the right to a healthy environment (Springer 2020) and The Transformation of Economic Law (Hart Publishing 2019). She is currently working on two monographs - EU private energy law: contracts, remedies, and procedures, and the Wolters Kluwer Encyclopedia of energy law in Brazil - and an edited book on Law for EU's Circular Energy System: Biowaste, Biofuel, and Biogas (Edward Elgar). She has been managing editor of the EJLS, assistant editor for I.CON (2015) and EJIL (2016), and worked on various research projects funded by prestigious organizations, among them, the International Energy Agency (2019-2023), European Research Council Consolidated Grant (2013-2016), Inter-American Development Bank (2011), the Academy of Finland (2017-2018), and the Finnish Funding Agency for Innovation (2012).

At WUR, her research focuses on the governance and regulation of the energy markets towards the accomplishment of decarbonization and decentralization, with particular attention to the integration of peer-to-peer energy trading, energy communities, and circular energy systems.
