Biografie

Rose Boahemaa Pinto is my name; A motivated Civil engineer eager to apply research, training and experience to take on challenging issues concerning the environment. I hold a MSc. degree in Water Supply and Environmental Sanitation from KNUST (Kumasi). This educational exposure has improved my research, analytical, communication skills, and understanding of Environmental Management.Presently, for my PhD I will be focusing on  the urban plastic flood nexus in the Odaw river, Ghana, where I look at the connectedness between the accumulation of the plastics in this urban water system and the occurence of flood.

Projecten

This was a research conducted between November, 2017 to May, 2018 to Convert food waste to poultry feed using Dehydration Technologies This project sought to help with finding a diversion stream for the recycling of food waste to poultry feed, first and foremost to help keep our environment clean by fulfilling SDG 13 on climate change and also ease poultry farmers on the hike prices of feed they buy for their poultry production.

This is my PhD project where I'm looking at the nexus between plastic and flood in an urban water catchment in Accra. This project combines field monitoring with modelling to achieve the final goal of the project. Presently, field work is ongoing within the catchment with three different measurement schemes, i.e. the monitoring of macroplastics in the river at different bridges along the river and the sampling of litter in a designated area at the river banks and the  terrestrial environment. This field work will be for a year. So far we've covered the dry season and looking forward to data collection in the wet season to see the variation in the plastic distribution.
