Biografie

Paulan Korenhof is researcher Artificial Intelligence in environmental politics at the Environmental Policy chair group (ENP). She has an interdisciplinary background in philosophy, law, and art. The core of her research is rooted in philosophy of technology and critical data studies. Her focus lies on studying how complex technological systems like Digital Twins and Artifical Intelligence applications influence human understanding of and approaches to climate and biodiversity challenges. In particular, she has a strong interest in the exploring positive and negative implications of the materialisation of information by digital means, map its dependance on underlying infrastructures as well as guiding concepts, and reveal the diverse boundaries that negotiate its assembly as a system.

Paulan's ultimate aim is to identify points for emancipatory design and use and thereby to contribute to the realisation of sustainable and inclusive digital technology. To further this aim, she  seeks to empirically inform her research by experimenting with computer programming, low-(digital)tech alternatives, and approaches through the lens of art and play.

Since 2020 she has been working at the WUR as a researcher of Digital Twin technology in the life sciences, analysing social and ethical implications, stakeholder expectations and concerns, and bias in data collection.
