Sonja studied Nanosciences at the University of Basel (Switzerland) before joining Thorsten Hugel’s lab for a doctorate on smFRET and chaperone dynamics at TU Munich (Germany). After a postdoc in Cees Dekker's lab on protein sensing using protein & solid-state nanopores at TU Delft (The Netherlands), she joined WUR as a tenure-track assistant professor in January 2021.
